  • GPO Access Finding Aids GPO Access provides a number of useful finding aids to assist you in searching or browsing for Government information
  • INFOMINE A government specific search of government resources and guides via the University of California Riverside
  • NonProfit Gateway A network of links to Federal government information and services.
  • U.S. Government Information Locator Service (GILS) essentially a card catalog, which
    identifies public information resources throughout the U.S. and provides assistance in obtaining that information.

Government Information Search Engines

  • AltaVista Using AltaVista, you can find any word in any document published on the World Wide Web or in Usenet discussion groups.
  • Broadsword -- The military's own search engine which crawls dozens of its vast classified networks, providing access to intelligence and command and control information residing on a wide array of otherwise incompatible platforms and operating systems.
  • FastSearch and Transfer (FAST) -- Considers itself to be the world's most thorough search engines, with a database of more than 200 million pages in 1999.
  • google.com -- Search 1,326,920,000 web pages Including PDF files.
  • google.com/unclesam --. Government sites in the Google database have been filtered into a one government-site-specific engine.
  • hotbot.com -- Search the web or do a category search. Can search using the domains, .mil and .gov.
  • Lib-Web-Cats -- Vanderbilt's libraries have developed a directory of over 5,000 libraries worldwide Library Web pages, online catalogs, and profiles can be searched. The site can be browsed by topic.
  • SearchMil.com -- A search engine indexing U.S. military Internet sites. "the most comprehensive index of publicly accessible .mil sites on the Internet."
